Invisalign: Step-by-Step What to Expect

Invisalign: Step-by-Step What to Expect

Mar 21, 2018

Whether you’re thinking of starting Invisalign or maybe you’re hoping to be one of the lucky patients to score a huge discount during our Invisalign Flash sale this weekend, you probably have questions about what to expect. Here’s how Invisalign works:

Step 1: Smile Scan

Your treatment will begin with a digital scan of your smile. No need to worry about those awful gummy impression molds. We use superior technology and 3D imaging to take digital scans of your mouth. Dr. Korous uses the Invisalign iTero Element® scanner to quickly capture an accurate 3D image of your teeth.

Step 2: Digital Roadmap

Dr. Korous will use the 3D scan to make a digital plan to map out your new smile. Each shift for every tooth is fine-tuned using ClinCheck® software. The software uses the data from more than 5 million Invisalign treatments to create the best and quickest plan for your treatment.

Step 3: Smile Preview

Within 15 minutes of your scan, you’ll have a preview of what your new smile will look like and how your treatment plan will work. Check out Isabelle’s video to see how the digital roadmap and smile preview work:

Step 4: Custom-made Clear Aligners

Dr. Korous will send your scan and digital roadmap to Invisalign’s labs. Your aligners will be custom-made using an advanced printing process. The aligners are made using proprietary SmartTrack material which is more flexible, making the aligners more comfortable to wear. Each aligner also will be custom trimmed to match your gum line to avoid any discomfort.

Step 5: Get Your First Aligners

You’ll return to the office to pick up your first set of aligners. Dr. Korous will ensure a good fit and answer any questions you have.

Step 6: Wear Your Aligners

You’ll need to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day to ensure the best and quickest results. Just take your aligners out to eat or drink and be sure to brush your teeth before you put them back in.

Dr. Korous will give your instructions on how to wear your aligners, but typically you’ll wear a set for one to two weeks before moving on to the next set. You’ll return to the office every six to eight weeks to check on your progress.
